My husband drove for hours and hours to Georgia to pick up our new puppy (just 7 weeks old!), because he couldn't wait for one to be available in Florida. I was against the idea from the start after losing our 18 year old mutt years before, but I was outvoted.
By the time he got back home, puppy (no name yet) was sick from the car ride, and afraid to walk on our wood floors. It took us a week to figure out that Ginger, our first thought, was the best name for her. She grew up so fast I…

When Lilly woke up on Saturday morning she didn't know it was going to be such a big day for her. You see, her family had relocated recently to a smaller home without a fenced yard and she was not a happy doodle girl. Her mom could see how sad Lilly was, not being able to play in a yard or just sit on the deck and watch the squirrels, so it was with sadness of her own that she contacted DRC to help find Lilly the perfect family to bring the sparkle back to Lilly's eyes.
Little did…

We honestly don't know Tanner's heritage. We have listed him as a poodle/golden retriever mix.

But he could be just about any poodle mix. …

Well, Luna continues to be prove herself to be one of the sweetest doodles I've ever fostered. She certainly still has her issues...and lots of them...but I definitely see small pockets of progress.
On January 16th, Luna started her heartworm treatment. She'd been on doxycycline for five weeks prior to that initial injection. Luna is my first heartworm positive dog and I just didn't know what to expect. Would she be in pain? (yes, a bit - it's a large, deep injection) Would…

Harper is not even 4 months old and in need of a new home. A BYB was going to take her to a kill shelter because she supposedly has a leak issue. She wouldn't of had a chance there. Harper' leak issue is more than likely due to the terrible UTI she is suffering with. Which in turn caused urine burn and…

Casey came to us just shy of a week now. He has fit like a glove. What a charmer this 8 month old is. He has stole the heart of us all, that is myself, my husband, an 8yr old boy, a 6 yr old girl, a cat and our 3 yr old golden retriever. He is mellow, a major people pleaser, smart and just so darn cute! He is gentle with my kids and loves to play with them and our golden. Of course as a puppy he still needs the "no bite" reminder. However he is not biting but gently nibbling as he is…

Six years ago tonight, my mom adopted me! She came to the shelter where I was staying and took me home with her, and I've been here ever since!
It took her three days to decide to adopt me. The first day she met me, she wasn't sure she…

Shadow stopped running only long enough for one good picture...Ginger just chilled on the bench most of the time!…

It has been awhile since I wrote here, truth is, things are going very smoothly. Ginger and I are getting far more exercise now that Shadow takes the lead on our walks. He is so excited every day to go exploring, meet new friends (both human and canine), he is very much like a toddler who is interested in everything around him. (more below picture). At least he doesn't bark so much at the turtles anymore, thank goodness!…

My pack has a new foster brother, Coal, and boy is he one sweetheart. He's a gentle spirited guy who LOVES walking outdoors on a leash and running with other dogs. He also loves tennis balls and we are teaching him to catch and fetch. He now can catch nicely from about 3 feet away and he seems so proud of himself!
He is timid and shy.... loud noises and sudden movements frighten him. He acts just like a dog who has been abused…

We have a rescue who lived seven and a half years in a puppy mill cage. She has made remarkable strides in socialization. However, after eating, she will urinate in her food bowl. We believe that this is a marking behavior to signify that the bowl is hers. We try to remove the bowl as soon as she has eaten but, is there any other way to prevent this behavior. She is emotionally very fragile so scolding her is not an option...

I wish I could tell you how my life started. Whether it was in a cramped cage in a puppy mill or whether my life had a happier beginning.
I wish I could tell you the story behind why I ended up for adoption, but truthfully I don’t really know if I understand the reason myself.
I do know one thing: I am a special dog. I am just as valuable as any dog purchased from a breeder at top dollar…in fact I am even more special because I need you…

Last week I decided to give the doodles some play time with other dogs and took them to doggie daycare for the while I was at work. As a puppy, Cubbie was always the life of the party there and spent his days running back and forth across the room. In the beginning, Ollie was pretty timid at daycare but going there helped Ollie to learn how to play with other dogs which made the situation at home a lot better.
Since I am addicted to the doggie daycare webcam, I checked in on them…
