Sarah-You could try the senior formula of Grain free orijen. Our vet has a doodle and we asked if it still has enough nutients for a 3 yr old dog and she looked at the formula and said it was perfect. Lizzy(our gd) and Sammy(schnauzer) have both lost a little weight in acontolled way. We only give Liz-1 cup twice a day, bully bones and fresh carrots for treats.
Hi, you can try feeding him canned green beans, cooked carrots, spinach, etc. for 'filler' - our dogs can't get enough of it (they're on Orijen - high protein so they get 2 1/2- 3 cups a day max, plus treats so the green beans helps with the 'filling up' and not out)
My doodle eats twice a day--two cups in the morning and two in the evening--of Iams weight control food. He is heavy--it's been a big struggle since we got him. We don't give him treats (which breaks my heart!), and he gets good long walks everyday.
Our vet said to cut his food down even more, but he was obviously hungry when we did, and he's so big, we felt like it was a bit cruel. Open to suggestions! SZ
Hi, I need some help re: understanding 'best foods'. I've been feeding Micky 'Go' but he is bored with it...(salmon, chicken). Fed him Innova before they were bought out. Thinking of shifting to a grain free BUT while I know Orijen is good (33+% protein) other grain free are in the mid to high 20s% (and then which Orijen if I go with it). How do you decide what to go with? is it mostly cost. Micky is 62-66 lbs and Gus (who we get tomorrow) is 80 (a year old; Micky is 3). I want to mail order something this weekend...thanks!!! OH, do you wet the dry food or just supply plenty of water.
